I use design to help companies solve user experience, marketing, and branding problems. I have designed data storage products, medical devices, industrial printers, seismic sensors, breath alcohol testers, wiffle ball pitchers, signs, graphics, badges and labels, GUI's, icons, and more. I love how my job allows me to learn about all these different companies, products, and customers.

I've had the great fortune to have worked alongside many high-powered problem-solvers, including Mechanical Engineers and Designers, Technical Writers, Graphic and Web Designers, and Marketing Experts. I look for opportunities to bring their expertise to bear on the problems I'm tasked with solving.

The greatest value to my clients comes when I get involved as early as possible, so that I can be immersed in the company culture, and understand the goals, customers, and problems facing the company. I can always put lipstick on the pig, but the best solutions are usually arrived at by attacking the problem holistically, from within - not at the end, from the outside.

I understand that design is only one part of a multi-faceted approach to solving a business problem, so I always work within the time and budget constraints of any project, and strive to stay connected to all the other partners working the complete solution. I'm not a design "primo uomo" (male version of a prima donna). Design solutions have to be acceptable to everyone on the development team - compromise is not a bad word.

As a consequence of my partnerships with mechanical engineers and manufacturing engineers over the years, I have an acute understanding and appreciation for the necessity of making sure that a design works, and is manufacturable. I never propose anything that I am not 100% sure can be built and used in the real world. I know how injection molding works, how sheet-metal is formed, and what manufacturing processes are appropriate for what kinds of products, cost structures, and production quantities.
